Ever since I moved here and started covering the school district, I've always wondered why Montrose County School District is abbreviated as "RE-1J." I've been asking around lately and finally found out from Laurie Laird, the superintendent's executive assistant.

"RE" means that the district was reorganized within the same county and the "J" means that the boundaries of the district cross county lines (Ouray and Gunnison).
