According to this Colorado Sun article I was reading about Christmas waste, nationwide we produce 23% more trash between Thanksgiving and Christmas (they cite their stats from Denver's Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency).
The article advises using reusable or recyclable wrapping paper, using real plates at any family gatherings and planning potlucks or meals better to cut down on food waste.
Do you find your trash cans piling over this time of year? If so, do you have any strategies you use to minimize how much you're throwing out?
My families' food waste strategy? Eating Christmas leftovers until January :)
