Asked a question 2 years ago

I've noticed a lot of scam accounts and posts recently and I wonder if it would be possible to implement some way to verify that it's a human making an account or making a post. Is this something that we can expect in the future?

Where am I?

In NABUR by Montrose Daily Press you can ask and answer questions and share your experience with others!

Hi @Ian Jameson30, just an update on your excellent question: It does appear the spam accounts are being created by humans overnight to the tune of two or three a day with a couple of posts each. Luckily, though, rather than being scam accounts trying to entice people to click and access bogus offers, they seem to be more focused on trying to boost SEO scores for other sites with random passages of text.

We're trying to find a consistent pattern because they use a different email address with each creation, but at least it seems they take the majority of weekends/holidays off so I haven't had to do a ton of clean up today.

We appreciate your patience and encourage you to combat this with any questions you may have about Montrose and the area that we can focus our journalistic efforts on getting answers for.

Thanks for pointing out areas where we can improve!

Hey @Ian Jameson32 the digital team is working on ways to mitigate the bot accounts with ReCaptcha, etc. We'll continue working on solutions, and I don't see it as a long-term issue. I will keep you and everyone on NABUR updated.
