Democrats are not responsible for all evil in the world. They're not even responsible for Covid, supply chain disruptions, inflation, high fuel prices, crime, Putin's invasion of Ukraine, etc. By the same token, neither are Republicans responsible for all of that. The Democratic Party is NOT controlled by leftists as clearly shown by recent primary results and the fact that they didn't try to overturn the election of Trump in '16 even though he lost the popular vote. The GOP, however, has been taken over by people who, for the most party, seem to care mostly about keeping themselves in power and establishing an authoritarian "Christian" nation. That has been made clear by their bald faced attempt to overthrow a free and fair election, by their choice of hosting CPAC in Hungary (an authoritarian state), inviting Viktor Orban (Hungary's President) to be a keynote speaker at another CPAC here in the US, and by increasing support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine (Defense News).
No, Democrats aren't leftists trying to turn the US into a "socialist" country. Neither are they scions of virtue. No political party is without its faults, and President Washington's warning to avoid political parties should have been heeded. I hope someday they will be. But right now, during the midterm elections, and again in '24 during the general elections, I hope voters will put preservation of freedom and our Constitution ahead of all other concerns and vote for Democrats or Independents or conscionable Republicans like Liz Cheney. Then we can get to work on instituting a system of voting that doesn't reward divisive extremism and lies. We need open primaries and ranked choice voting. Both of those will moderate political rhetoric and give us more candidates who are actually interested in working for the common good instead of building political dynasties.
