Tuesday, Sept. 21, Montrose City Council imposed a moratorium on adult arcade-style gaming businesses. For 180 days, no one can open a new business of that type and council is using that time to further research permanent regulations and restrictions. Existing gaming businesses can't expand or relocate and must explicitly bar anyone under 21 from being on premises, including as an employee.
The gist: A lot of serious crime has been associated with some of the patrons at these businesses and while not all patrons engage in such behavior, enough do that police are concerned for public safety, as well as dealing with issues that are heavy on staff resources. So, city council hit the pause button.
